Hola Mexico City

So, back on the road again after a few days back in England, we set off on Monday lunchtime with Caroline´s Dad, Tony, along for a couple of weeks, bound for Mexico city. Long flight surrounded by Spanish speakers, so good for getting into the spirit...

Bit of a culture shock for Caroline´s dad when we arrived at our hostel in the historic district late at night - the average age was about 19, and the place was just heaving and very noisy. It turned out to be a great location to stay, despite the tiniest room we´ve had yet on the trip.

We only had one full day in Mexico City, which turned out to be way too little, however we packed in as much as we could. We took a free walking tour from the hostel to the Anthropology museum which is excellent - chock full of Mayan artefacts, and accompanied by an excellent local guide, it was a great introduction for our trip around many Mayan temples to come

Having ben shown how to use the local metro system (ignoring the naysayers who said it was dangerous), we got around the city for the rest of the day using it- far more efficient and cheaper than the London underground. We unfortunately couldn´t see the Diego Rivera murals at the Palace, so instead went to the Palacio des Bellas Artes which holds a couple of his murals as well as some other interesting artists.

We got an amazing view of the city and surrounding mountains, and an impending rain storm from the top of the Torre Latinoamerica (tall tower), and so we ended our only day in Mexico City.
